Lady Aine

Lady Aine carries the music and the mead of House Corvus. With an Irish persona and a love of the bardic arts, she keeps alive two things that have always gathered people around a fire: a good drink and a good song.
Persona Background
Aine's persona is Irish, drawing on the rich tradition of Gaelic music, poetry, and hospitality. The Irish bardic schools trained poets and musicians for years; the bard was a keeper of memory and lineage, welcomed in every hall. It is a fitting persona for a member of the raven house, where memory is the whole point.
The Bardic Arts
In the Society, a bard performs the songs, poems, and stories of the medieval world — and sometimes new works written in old styles. Bardic circles, held around a fire after the day's events, are among the warmest moments in the Society: by turns funny, moving, and grand. Aine studies period song, learns to play, and performs at events across the kingdom.
Much medieval music survives in notated manuscripts and has been recorded and studied by early-music scholars; organisations devoted to early music are a rich resource for anyone learning the repertoire.
Historical Brewing
Aine also studies the medieval art of brewing. Ale and mead were everyday drinks in much of the medieval world, brewed at home — very often by women, who dominated the trade for centuries. Recreating period brewing means working from surviving recipes and an understanding of the ingredients available in a given time and place. (As with all our consumable arts, this is pursued responsibly and for adults; the Society sets clear expectations around alcohol at events.)
